All of us crave rare erasers. It's the whole point of collecting! However, just in case you do not know the difference between common and rare, I'll tell you...
There are several different brands of country erasers. How valuable the eraser is depends on a whole host of factors, including...
- Brand
-Flag on the eraser.
-Age of eraser
-Condition the eraser is in
Here are the basic classes of erasers.
1. 21st Century Counterfeit.
This is the country eraser found in most bookshops. It started to appear when the original brand of country eraser peaked in popularity. So, some companies started to shamelessly copy the idea, only the erasers they made were not the same quality. After original country erasers fell out of print, the fake brands took over and the country eraser world descended into anarchy. This type of eraser is the most common one today.
Here is how to identify the 21st century counterfeit.
Look out for...
-Smudged print
-Random fringes of purple on the flag
-Thick font.
Note that the Australia has smudgy print and France has a fringe of purple along the blue stripe.
99% of country erasers today are this variety.
2. 20-21st Century Sub-Original erasers
This is a variety that is rarer than the 21st Century Counterfeit but still possible to find.
It has...
-Thin print
-Lighter shade of colour than the 21st century counterfeit
-Top and bottom sides have grainy texture.
This class of eraser is today a collectible item.
3. Lion Erasers (original)
This brand of rare eraser can be identified as...
-Having the same thickness as the 21st century counterfeit
-Thin font
-Lack of grainy sides
It is an extremely valuable eraser, as it is not in print anymore.
4.Thin eraser
This eraser is very rare as it is not in print anymore. It can be identified as
-The flag being slightly tweaked.
-The eraser being thin.
5. Colour bottom Country eraser
This is rare as it is not in print anymore. It has a coloured bottom and thicker font than the Lion erasers. (Note the one below is in bad condition!)
So these are all the classes of erasers. Have fun collecting!
